HS codes
Dairy exports fall under HS chapter 04. Classify precisely — the first six digits are international, the rest are India's ITC-HS extension. Your HS code drives duty, FTA eligibility and the paperwork the buyer's customs will expect.
Export requirements & certifications
- Registration with APEDA; FSSAI licensing for the processing/packing unit.
- Destination food-safety compliance (US FDA facility registration, or the equivalent) and, for the EU/UK, dairy-establishment approval.
- Halal certification is commonly requested for Gulf buyers.
- Cold-chain records where applicable; shelf-life and labelling to the destination's rules.
Requirements change and are buyer- and destination-specific — confirm the current rules with your export promotion council and the buyer before you ship.
Documentation
Every dairy shipment needs the core set: commercial invoice, packing list, shipping bill, bill of lading or airway bill, certificate of origin (preferential where an FTA applies), and the category-specific certificates above. See the full export documentation checklist and the dairy export guide.
Finding buyers
The reliable method: identify companies that already import dairy in your target market from customs data, reach the named procurement contact, and open on the trade signal — not a generic pitch. EximHub does that end to end. Read how to find export buyers or how customs trade data works.
