HS codes
Garment exports fall under HS chapters 61–62. Classify precisely — the first six digits are international, the rest are India's ITC-HS extension. Your HS code drives duty, FTA eligibility and the paperwork the buyer's customs will expect.
Export requirements & certifications
- RCMC from AEPC (Apparel Export Promotion Council).
- Social-compliance audit (SEDEX/SMETA, WRAP, BSCI) — most brand buyers require one.
- OEKO-TEX / REACH on materials; AZO-free dye declarations.
- Labelling to destination rules; buyer's tech pack, size set and PP sample sign-off.
Requirements change and are buyer- and destination-specific — confirm the current rules with your export promotion council and the buyer before you ship.
Documentation
Every garment shipment needs the core set: commercial invoice, packing list, shipping bill, bill of lading or airway bill, certificate of origin (preferential where an FTA applies), and the category-specific certificates above. See the full export documentation checklist and the garment export guide.
Finding buyers
The reliable method: identify companies that already import garment in your target market from customs data, reach the named procurement contact, and open on the trade signal — not a generic pitch. EximHub does that end to end. Read how to find export buyers or how customs trade data works.
