HS codes
Leather Goods exports fall under HS 4202–4205. Classify precisely — the first six digits are international, the rest are India's ITC-HS extension. Your HS code drives duty, FTA eligibility and the paperwork the buyer's customs will expect.
Export requirements & certifications
- RCMC from the Council for Leather Exports (CLE).
- REACH compliance — chromium (VI), azo dyes, DMF and PCP limits are enforced in the EU.
- Leather Working Group (LWG) tannery certification is increasingly expected.
- Material composition and origin labelling; buyer sample approval.
Requirements change and are buyer- and destination-specific — confirm the current rules with your export promotion council and the buyer before you ship.
Documentation
Every leather goods shipment needs the core set: commercial invoice, packing list, shipping bill, bill of lading or airway bill, certificate of origin (preferential where an FTA applies), and the category-specific certificates above. See the full export documentation checklist and the leather goods export guide.
Finding buyers
The reliable method: identify companies that already import leather goods in your target market from customs data, reach the named procurement contact, and open on the trade signal — not a generic pitch. EximHub does that end to end. Read how to find export buyers or how customs trade data works.
