HS codes
Printing exports fall under HS chapter 49. Classify precisely — the first six digits are international, the rest are India's ITC-HS extension. Your HS code drives duty, FTA eligibility and the paperwork the buyer's customs will expect.
Export requirements & certifications
- IEC and RCMC (via the relevant merchandise EPC).
- Ink and material safety compliance for the destination (e.g. food-contact rules where print touches packaging).
- Copyright/licensing clearance for printed content (books, branded packaging) is the buyer's and printer's joint responsibility.
- Buyer-approved proof/sample sign-off before the full print run.
Requirements change and are buyer- and destination-specific — confirm the current rules with your export promotion council and the buyer before you ship.
Documentation
Every printing shipment needs the core set: commercial invoice, packing list, shipping bill, bill of lading or airway bill, certificate of origin (preferential where an FTA applies), and the category-specific certificates above. See the full export documentation checklist and the printing export guide.
Finding buyers
The reliable method: identify companies that already import printing in your target market from customs data, reach the named procurement contact, and open on the trade signal — not a generic pitch. EximHub does that end to end. Read how to find export buyers or how customs trade data works.
