HS codes
Tea exports fall under HS 0902. Classify precisely — the first six digits are international, the rest are India's ITC-HS extension. Your HS code drives duty, FTA eligibility and the paperwork the buyer's customs will expect.
Export requirements & certifications
- Tea Board of India registration and export licence.
- FSSAI unit registration; ISO 22000 / HACCP commonly required.
- Phytosanitary certificate; MRL compliance for the destination.
- Certificate of origin; buyer-specified garden mark, grade and packing.
Requirements change and are buyer- and destination-specific — confirm the current rules with your export promotion council and the buyer before you ship.
Documentation
Every tea shipment needs the core set: commercial invoice, packing list, shipping bill, bill of lading or airway bill, certificate of origin (preferential where an FTA applies), and the category-specific certificates above. See the full export documentation checklist and the tea export guide.
Finding buyers
The reliable method: identify companies that already import tea in your target market from customs data, reach the named procurement contact, and open on the trade signal — not a generic pitch. EximHub does that end to end. Read how to find export buyers or how customs trade data works.
