HS codes
Timber exports fall under HS chapter 44. Classify precisely — the first six digits are international, the rest are India's ITC-HS extension. Your HS code drives duty, FTA eligibility and the paperwork the buyer's customs will expect.
Export requirements & certifications
- IEC and RCMC; compliance with India's timber-sourcing and forest-produce regulations.
- Phytosanitary certificate and ISPM-15 treatment (heat treatment or fumigation) for wood packaging material itself.
- Legality/chain-of-custody documentation — FSC or PEFC certification is increasingly required, especially for the EU (EUDR) and UK/US markets.
- Moisture content and grading to the buyer's specification.

Documentation
