HS codes
Watches exports fall under HS 91. Classify precisely — the first six digits are international, the rest are India's ITC-HS extension. Your HS code drives duty, FTA eligibility and the paperwork the buyer's customs will expect.
Export requirements & certifications
- IEC and RCMC from the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) or the relevant merchandise EPC.
- Destination product-safety and labelling compliance (e.g. battery/component safety marks where applicable).
- For precious-metal or gem-set watches, hallmarking and Kimberley Process documentation apply as for jewellery.
- Buyer sample approval and, for branded/licensed watches, IP/licensing documentation.
Requirements change and are buyer- and destination-specific — confirm the current rules with your export promotion council and the buyer before you ship.
Documentation
Every watches shipment needs the core set: commercial invoice, packing list, shipping bill, bill of lading or airway bill, certificate of origin (preferential where an FTA applies), and the category-specific certificates above. See the full export documentation checklist and the watches export guide.
Finding buyers
The reliable method: identify companies that already import watches in your target market from customs data, reach the named procurement contact, and open on the trade signal — not a generic pitch. EximHub does that end to end. Read how to find watches buyers, how to find export buyers or how customs trade data works.
