HS codes
Wine exports fall under HS 2204. Classify precisely — the first six digits are international, the rest are India's ITC-HS extension. Your HS code drives duty, FTA eligibility and the paperwork the buyer's customs will expect.
Export requirements & certifications
- FSSAI licensing and compliance with India's alcohol-export regulations (state and central rules apply - verify current requirements).
- Destination import licensing for alcoholic beverages - most markets require an importer-side licence and this varies significantly by country and even by US state.
- Certificate of origin, analysis and, for the EU/UK, compliance with wine-labelling and sulphite-declaration rules.
- Buyer-specified bottling, labelling (private label) and case-pack requirements.
Requirements change and are buyer- and destination-specific — confirm the current rules with your export promotion council and the buyer before you ship.
Documentation
Every wine shipment needs the core set: commercial invoice, packing list, shipping bill, bill of lading or airway bill, certificate of origin (preferential where an FTA applies), and the category-specific certificates above. See the full export documentation checklist and the wine export guide.
Finding buyers
The reliable method: identify companies that already import wine in your target market from customs data, reach the named procurement contact, and open on the trade signal — not a generic pitch. EximHub does that end to end. Read how to find wine buyers, how to find export buyers or how customs trade data works.
